Trumpet - Arrowhead Brass Band 

SPC Zahary Lerner

SPC Zachary Lerner was raised in Houston, TX, and is an active duty veteran of the 101st Airborne Division band, who returned to service in the 36th ID Band after a multi-decade hiatus. He has been a trumpet player with our unit for close to two years, and is part of the Arrowhead brass band, music library team, drill band cadre, and physical readiness team. SPC Lerner holds a master's degree from the University of Houston, and did his undergraduate work at Houston Christian University. He was an NCO during active duty, where he earned multiple awards and distinctions. As a civilian, SPC Lerner is a music teacher and performer, working with over 100 students in five school districts around the Houston area. He has performed for ESPN and Good Morning Canada, for dignitaries including Presidents and Vice Presidents of the US and other countries, and has been featured performing the US national anthem at Major League Baseball and NCAA games. He toured the USA and Canada seven or eight times as a performer, visiting every state in CONUS, before settling back in Houston. SPC Lerner loves most types of music, performing classical, jazz, wedding/cover bands, musical theatre, multiple specialized ethnic styles, and has his own "Brass With Class" solo act on brass and vocals. His students have gone on to major in music at colleges such as the University of Texas, the Interlochen School for the Arts, and the Juilliard School of Music. SPC Lerner is a competitive endurance cyclist, and he most especially loves to spend time with his family (Natalie, Jaydan, and Jonathan) and their small dog Hanna.
